Search for an application in the App Store on your iPad 1, for example, and the App Store app will tell you that the app can't be downloaded because it requires a device running iOS 7 (or 8, or 9), and therefore can't be installed on your iPad.even if there was an iOS 5 version of the app at some point in the past. On the surface, this is a perfectly sensible thing for Apple to do: why would they ever want you to download older, buggier, and potentially less secure software when there's an updated version available? When you're on an older device, however, this means an app may not be compatible with your old version of iOS. The way Apple has the App Store configured, you are always directed towards the newest version of an application. Many people abandon these old-but-still-functioning devices not because they're upset about missing out on the new iOS features, but because it's such a pain to download apps to them. While getting stuck on older software is par for the course, it can be frustrating. With every new wave of iOS hardware, a little bit of the legacy hardware is left behind. The iPhone 4 is stuck at iOS 7.1.2, for example, and the first-gen iPad is stuck all the way back at iOS 5.1.1. Although Apple does a pretty admirable job dragging old hardware along for each iOS update, every train has a final stop. What's the Deal With Old Versions of iOS and New Apps?Īs of the publication of this article, we're currently on iOS 9 and, in a short few months, iOS 10 will roll out to the public.

In my experience: A heavily discounted software sale is a reliable indicator that a new version is imminent.Īs a big fan of Arturia's V (and FX) Collection, the thing I find cheeky about this "new" version is that they list the "Augmented" intruments as being "New in V Collection X" when I distinctly recall them being "New in V Collection 9" the last time I checked. Literally every single software sale I've ever had my eyes on has been this way They heavily discount the old version right before releasing the new one. I wonder if there is a grace period or if they expect to sell those folks an upgrade! Slightly cheeky to release it so soon after those heavy discounts on V9. I have the Strings and Voices already which sound really good. Was checking so Id feel better about giving them a miss but they're only like 3 gb a piece. That being said I was pleasantly surprised by how small the installs for the Augmented series are (I'm very conscious of install sizes at the moment, being very selective what I install from Komplete etc). Ive never heard anything from the mini freak online that has made me think "i want that synth". I would like to have the upgrade for the Moog Mini (49 euro if I get separately) but given I picked up VK2 (9 quid!) and various Ekss synths this year Im all good for synth bass and I also have Diva (the first paid VST i ever bought!). The presets, sequencer and FX are where it shines.īut 149 euros for that new electric piano and 3 more of the augmented series and the minifreak.probably wont bite this time. I already had AB元 but I was pretty happy with ACID V for 40 odd quid a few months ago. If you already have AB元 or Phoscyon it might not be worth the money, but I like it The built-in sequencer is nice, and it sounds really great with the Bassline Generator player. Velodyne Lidar (NASDAQ: VLDR), a company that has thus far focused on high-performance, high-cost lidar sensors, has developed a new mass-market sensor that it says can be produced for as little as $500. Now while Luminar’s technology appears well suited for mass-market self-driving cars, competition is also rising. Although lidar is seeing surging interest, driven partly by the big electric vehicle stock rally and an increasing commitment from legacy automakers to electrification and self-driving, we think investors should tread with caution with Luminar stock for a couple of reasons. Is the stock too risky at current levels? We think it is. The company has a market cap of close to $11 billion, trading at about 400x consensus 2021 revenue. Luminar Technologies (NASDAQ: LAZR), a company that specializes in lidar technology that helps self-driving vehicles detect their surroundings, went public in December and now trades at about $34 per share, almost 3.5x its offer price. Luminar: Which Lidar Stock Should You Pick? for an overview of the two companies’ valuation and fundamental performance in recent years. While Luminar’s market capitalization of about $8 billion is somewhat high, considering that the company doesn’t have a manufacturing track record, and is likely to see competition increase with the likes of Intel’s INTC MobileEye looking to produce its own lidar sensors, the recent developments and the correction in the stock price mean that the risk to reward proposition for Luminar stock is looking a little better. While the company is expected to begin commercial deliveries next year, it expects to generate revenue of $25 million to $30 million in 2021. Luminar plans to grow this order book by over 40% this year. The company also continues to win more customers, with its forward-looking order book standing at $1.3 billion at the end of last year. However, Launchpad is generally the most user-friendly, especially if you are new to the Mac and have only ever used an iPhone before. Launchpad is the Mac’s application launcher. Here’s everything you need to know about it. The similar visual aspects of macOS and iOS are no more apparent than in the Mac’s Launchpad – the application launcher built into macOS. Palaces is his most confident, mature, and uncompromising work to date, a true testament to nurturing the relationships that make us whole and bring us peace. Settling in a coastal town in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Flume quickly found the inspiration he needed through reconnecting with the nature around him-the rolling hills, walking around barefoot, the green color the sky turns before a big storm, growing and eating his own vegetables, the smell of rain. As Flume continued to forge a strong connection to his surroundings, the album he wanted to make started to form, eventually adopting a title to properly highlight the luxury and magic of the natural world. Palaces began to take shape when Flume returned to his native Australia after struggling to write music in Los Angeles at the beginning of the pandemic. Flume, the acclaimed, GRAMMY® award-winning electronic artist, is making a stop at the Skyline Stage at the Mann on Friday, June 10 in support of his new album, Palaces, with Tinashe and Jim-E Stack!
